The Predator

The Predator  is back after 2 years of redevelopment!  This is the next step above the ever-popular Silver Surfer in the GT30R to GT35R Garrett mid-framed T3 footprint as a less expensive alternative to the GTX3576R in the way of purpose, use and response. At approximately 60lbs/min, The Predator gives 1.8-2.4 litre 4-cylinder and 2.5 litre-3.7 litre 6-cylinder engine applications the ability to combine the responsiveness needed in the mid-rpm range like the Surfer with additional upper rpm range to reach levels of over 600whp without the possibility of over-surge issues after 28psi of boost pressure, due to its enhanced compressor wheel profile, and well-matched turbine exhaust wheel and ported turbine housing in a T31 footprint

With  its T6 -7075 forged aluminum composition, The Predator has unsurpassed durability to prevent compressor wheel flex that is a typical issue with other "billet" aluminum wheels that are of a lower strength composition. As with all of  the STC Forged aluminum series, this turbo gives the reliability, repeatability, and rebuildability  that is expected from Genuine Garrett Products

This unit has a standard Journal Bearing T31 2.5" turbine housing configuration, which can easily replace the standard T3/T4 Garrett-based turbocharger, and is available in T3 configuration only. (T3 V-band is only available using our 2.5" 4-bolt to 3"  v-band conversion flange )

The use of 3/8th NPT water fittings for the Journal Bearing version is optional, but highly recommended for those using this turbocharger for "daily driving" duties in which oil temperatures and pressures are put to the test.

The Ball-bearing version is optional for an additional charge, and requires the use of a restrictor (.030") and water fittings. *

This particular turbocharger is designed best for engine applications that generally plan to run efficiency ranges from 16psi-30psi that plan to run from 400whp-600whp in the standard  T04E compressor cover.

The Predator comes standard with a T04E 3" inlet as the compressor cover.

All Journal Bearing turbos use optional water-cooling ports. These are not required for the turbocharger to work, but is highly recommended.

Important Sizes and information to note:

Journal Bearing CHRA – oil/water cooled

Water Ports =  3/8NPT

Oil feed fitting size 1/8NPT

Recommended Restictor = .060"-.065" for oil pressures over 75-80psi oil pressure

All Ball-bearing turbos use required water ports in order to function properly, and share the same oil feed and fitting size as the Garrett GT and GTX series

Ball-Bearing CHRA oil/water-cooled

Water Ports = 14mm

Oil Feed Fitting size = 7/16

Recommended restrictor = .030" for oil pressure over 22-40psi oil pressure

Journal Bearing CHRA Oil-cooled

Oil Feed Fitting size = 1/4NPT

Recommended Restictor = .060"-.065" for oil pressures over 75-80psi oil pressure

 

Return flanges

For both Journal Bearing and ball-bearing turbochargers, return flange is still 1/2 inch flanges used on T3/T4 turbochargers, not the GT Series

 

T4 Turbine Housing

If T4 turbine housing is selected, 74mm Diameter exhaust wheel is standard on T4 Journal Bearing and Ball-Bearing applications of the Predator turbo
